What Do You Give Your Attention To
Give your attention to what you want instead of what you do not; okay so you watched the movie The Secret and you got all excited because you realized that you can bring things into your life. However as you look at your results you are not very happy with the way things are, after all you do not want to continue living paycheck to paycheck. So why is it that you continue living in those circumstances when you have set goals to make more money. Are you like the 97% of people who have applied the principles of The Secret and have begun paying attention to your thoughts, but have not noticed the things change in your life? The law of attraction does work, however it takes time. We live in a society that is very impatient we want everything now. If we are not able to get the things we want “today” we quit because we do not believe that it is possible to acquire.
People who are looking to achieve financial freedom jump from income opportunity to income opportunity because they do not achieve overnight success. Success does come to those who are willing to stick with something until it works. If you look at anyone who has had success in the past you will notice that no one has ever had overnight success, either they failed several times or it took them several years to achieve the success they desired. You must give your attention to what you desire; however you must be willing to persist with something until it becomes a reality. Quit trying to get rich overnight.
I hear this all the time from people who have tried to start a business for themselves; “I gave it a year, and it did not work.” Well a year is not long enough for anything, that is only 365 days. If you are looking for financial freedom, stay away from things that promise you overnight success, because you will be disappointed in the results you achieve. Give your attention to your thoughts and begin to take action towards what it is you desire and stay on track by just following the principles in personal development.
- Believe you can be do have anything you desire
- Wake up every morning and give gratitude for everything in your life.
- Visualize everyday what it is you desire; most important feel the feelings of the outcome.
- Take action and work towards your goals; do not just sit on the couch and watch television.
- Most important Give your attention to what it is you desire and take your mind off of your current circumstances.
- Continually read and educate yourself on improving yourself and moving towards what it is you desire.
If you can follow these six steps and learn how to control the thoughts that you focus on everyday; you too will achieve success. Learn how to take your mind away from the negative thoughts that you focus on, and change them to positive thoughts. It all starts with paying attention to your thoughts.

I suggest the message behind “The Secret” is essentially Part I of the three part formula given in Matthew 7:7 (and Luke 11:9):
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door wil be opened”.
The full tri-part formula, as given in the Bible (and advocated by subsequent authors such as Napoleon Hill (Think and Grow Rich; Law of Success), Charles Haanel (Master Key System), James Allen, etc.) specifies an active component (“seek”, “knock”). Perhaps a lack of success associated with visualizing is due to a lack of associated effort to assist realization / manifestation?
An Engineer does not just design a bridge and then visualize it, waiting for it to appear. A farmer praying for rain is not likely to wait for rain to plant his seed. I believe the ground must be prepared so as to receive the object or goal desired. Visualization is necessary, but only part of the process required, and clearly outlined by numerous authors.
Is this not the idea underlying James Allen`s statement in `Light on Life`s Difficulties`:
`To live is to think and act, and to think and act is to change. While man is ignorant of the nature of thought, he continues to change for better and worse; but, being acquainted with the nature of thought, he intelligently accelerates and directs the process of change, and only for the better.
What the sum total of a man’s thoughts are, that he is. From this sameness of thought with man there is not the slightest fractional deviation. There is a change as a result with the addition and subtraction of thought, but the mathematical law is an invariable quality.
Seeing that man is mind, that mind is composed of thought, and that thought is subject to change, it follows that deliberately to change the thought is to change the man`.
I believe it is one and the same message.
